Hearing Jesus
Rachael GrollHey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.
Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?
Hey, I’m your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I too was doubting God’s voice in my own life. I too felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn’t quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn’t qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do.
The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God’s word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life.
Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His.
The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. God’s Loving Thoughts of You Outnumber the Grains of Sand: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 139
May 18, 2023 - 26 min
God’s Loving Thoughts of You Outnumber the Grains of Sand: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 139
Friend, we are discussing some powerful truths today. God knows you intimately, and there is nowhere you can go to escape that love. When we allow those truths to sink in, it will change things for us. I pray that as we study today’s Psalm, you recognize how incredibly much you are loved.
Thoughts to Journal:
Does the understanding of God’s omniscience change anything for you? Or the fact that the enemy is not omniscient? What about God’s omnipresence? Spend some time today, reflecting on the ways these truths impact your relationship with God.
Today’s Key Verse:
How precious also are Your thoughts for me, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the sand. Psalm 139: 17-18a

The Faithfulness of God is Everlasting: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 138
May 17, 2023 - 18 min
The Faithfulness of God is Everlasting: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 138
Today is the first of eight psalms written by David. David’s prayer of thankfulness and praise also includes his desire to see the name of Yahweh praised in the surrounding nations. Eventually, the spread of the gospel would reach outside of Israel after Jesus came. As we unpack this psalm, may it encourage you to pray for those that do not yet know Him.
Thoughts to Journal:
In the midst of trouble, we see David praising God for His faithfulness. When you think of God’s name, do you also think about his character? His behavior? His reputation? How can those things encourage you when you are going through trouble? Spend some time today reminding yourself of these things so you can refer to them in difficult seasons.
Today’s Key Verse:
On the day I called, You answered me; You made me bold with strength in my soul. Psalm 138:3

Yearning for God’s Presence: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 137
May 16, 2023 - 18 min
Yearning for God’s Presence: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 137
As we study today the worship leaders of Israel, and the longing they experienced while in captivity, it reminds us of the yearning we sometimes feel as we live in the space of the “already but not yet.” We are already one with Christ, but not yet fully restored, and we won’t be this side of heaven. It is a normal human emotion to sometimes wrestle with that yearning. I pray that as we unpack today’s psalm, it helps you settle into a place of thankfulness for the gift and presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Thoughts to Journal:
Do you ever long for heaven? For the complete restoration of our lives, our bodies, and our world? If we are honest, it sometimes is hard not to yearn for that when we look at the world around us. Spend some time today thanking God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, which empowers us to be a light in this dark world as we wait for Christ’s return.
Today’s Key Verse:
May my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you Psalm 137:6a

Feeling Stuck in Your Prayer Life? Using Psalm 136 as a Model to Get Unstuck: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 136
May 15, 2023 - 26 min
Feeling Stuck in Your Prayer Life? Using Psalm 136 as a Model to Get Unstuck: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 136
Today we take a look at the redemptive thread woven throughout Israel’s history through the eyes of the psalmist. This passage can be a model for us when we feel stuck in prayer, as we praise God for the way He has worked in our own lives. We can also look forward to the redemptive work Jesus accomplished on the cross. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Do you sometimes get stuck in your prayer life? Try to take the patterns we see in Psalm 136 as a model for your own prayer life to get you started. Remember that it’s not a formula, but an idea to get you started. The goal of prayer is relationship. Write out your response to Him, He longs to spend time with you, friend!
Today’s Key Verse:
Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever. Psalm 136:26

Praising God for His Goodness and His Greatness: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 135
May 11, 2023 - 20 min
Praising God for His Goodness and His Greatness: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 135
Praising God has more to do with who He is than what He may be doing in our lives. We know God’s character and nature does not change, so we can also praise Him for who He will be in the future. Today we see that example in Psalm 135.
Thoughts to Journal:
When was the last time you simply praised God for who He is? For His goodness and greatness, not in response to a current situation? While it is important to praise Him for what He has done and what He is currently doing, it’s also important to praise Him for who we know Him to be. Take some time to write out a prayer of praise to Him today.
Today’s Key Verse:
Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; Psalm 135:1
Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.
Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Encouraging Our Spiritual Leaders: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 133 and Psalm 134
May 10, 2023 - 20 min
Encouraging Our Spiritual Leaders: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 133 and Psalm 134
Today we again combine two shorter Psalms that both talk about the ways we can encourage our spiritual leaders. We also discuss unity and how important that is for the body of Christ. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
When was the last time you spoke a word of encouragement or appreciation to someone that is a spiritual leader in your life? What can you do this week to reach out to that person to let them know you value them? Spend some time praying for them today and name something specific you can do to encourage them.
Today’s Key Verse:
May the Lord bless you from Zion, He who is the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 134:3
Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.

God’s Covenant Promise That Points to Jesus: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 131 and 132
May 9, 2023 - 22 min
God’s Covenant Promise That Points to Jesus: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 131 and 132
Today we combine two Psalms that reveal some key characteristics about God’s nature. As we study today, I pray these thoughts sink down from your head and into your heart.
Thoughts to Journal:
Nurturing, compassionate, faithful, present. How does the content in today’s psalm minister to your heart? When we remember that the Lord is on the throne, we realize that there is nothing we have to face in this world alone. Spend some time in worship today, praising Him for the way He chases after you.
Today’s Key Verse:
This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. Psalm 132:14
Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast.
Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God’s voice or if it’s really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life?
Hey, I’m your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God’s voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do.
We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open.
Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer.

Waiting for Restoration After We Have Fallen Into Sin: Devotional Bible Study of Psalm 130
As believers, we all have times in our lives when we have to deal with the consequences and chaos of sin. While we know that God can restore us, the period of waiting for that to happen can be difficult to endure. Today we talk about the peace that can happen while we are working through the restoration process. I pray this episode blesses you.
Thoughts to Journal:
Have there been times in your life when you have experienced chaos as a consequence of sin in your life? Are you going through a season like that right now? How do you react in those situations? Are you quick to come back to God and ask for His help? Spend some time processing what it would look like to remember that He is a God who forgives and longs to restore us to right relationship with Him.
Today’s Key Verse:
For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption. Psalm 130:7

Finding Hope and Joy with Special Guest Raquelle Stevens
For Friends and Family Friday, I invited my friend Raquelle Stevens on to talk about finding hope and joy. In a post-pandemic world, and the hustle culture we find ourselves in, sometimes finding joy in the day-to-day can be difficult. Together we talk through some of the issues that are common for women, and how having a “Sunshine Mindset” makes all the difference.
THE SUNSHINE MIND: 100 Days to Finding the Hope and Joy You Want by Tanya Rad & Raquelle Stevens can be found anywhere books are sold.
In their debut book, Tanya & Raquelle share a message of hope particularly those who are working on their mental health, self-worth, friendships, dating, balancing work/personal life, etc. Tanya and Raquelle share their faith journeys and 100 days to a “sunshine mindset” through anecdotes from their personal lives and daily meditations. Each passage helps strengthen the reader's faith and helps them navigate life’s obstacles with positivity, grace, and light.
ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Raquelle Stevens appears with Selena Gomez as part of her inner circle in My Mind & Me as well as Selena+Chef on HBO, and Tanya Rad is co-host of On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Both Tanya and Raquelle have popular podcasts: Scrubbing In and Giving Back Generation.
