September 2 is the annual commemoration of Saint Brocard (1170-1231). A group of Christian hermits led by St. Brocard settled on Mount Carmel—the biblical site associated with the Prophet Elijah (900-850 BC). These hermits built a chapel dedicated to Mary and eventually became known as the Brothers of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
