Overcoming Overcommitment
November 15, 2022 - 20 min
Overcoming Overcommitment In today’s age and culture, it's easy to get caught up in a lot of busyness. Just about everybody is busy, and we often do much more than we’re capable of. We all want to succeed. We all want to overcome obstacles on our path. We all want to win and achieve our goals, but as women, wives, and moms, we are more prone to doing so much. Our to-do list and demands of the day are often too long that we find ourselves overcommitting even when we’re unaware of it. When we start missing dates, missing deadlines, dropping balls, and feeling detached from the people we love, that’s when we are probably doing too much. It’s important to remember that God calls us to rest, too. Psalm 127:2 tells, “It’s in vain for us to rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat— for He grants sleep to those He loves.” So if you feel guilty about pushing yourself so hard, you are not alone. Most of us are guilty of overcommitting, not being present enough, and wearing ourselves out (also unintentionally allowing the enemy to wear us out). However, we have to get back to the Word of God which reminds us to rest. God rested. Genesis 2:2 tells us, “God rested on the seventh day after He finished His work of creation.”Join the conversation with your host, Courtnaye Richard, as she shares ways we overcommit and push ourselves over the limit and how we can overcome overcommitment while fulfilling our God-given purpose. She shares that we can experience a beautiful balance between work and rest. Tune in!During this episode, you will learn about:[00:00] Introduction to the show [00:39] Today’s Focus: Overcoming Overcommitment[01:01] Are you feeling a little bit over-committed? Conquering Comparison
November 8, 2022 - 19 min
Conquering ComparisonSometimes we don’t like to admit that we struggle with comparison, but most of us do. Whether it’s wives comparing to wives, singles to other singles, speakers to other speakers, moms to other moms, or writers to other writers, it’s still comparison and can be debilitating. Oftentimes, we measure ourselves to others and feel like we are not good enough or that we should be doing more. As kingdom women, God does not want us to compare ourselves to other people. He wants us to be satisfied with what He has given us. Being content in the state that we are in is of great gain, for God will give us more if that is His will (1 Tim 6:6). It’s time we stop comparing ourselves and start enjoying the life God has already given us.Join the conversation with your host, Courtnaye Richard, as she shares what conquering comparison is, how comparison manifests in our lives, and ways to overcome it to live a contented and joyful life. No one is perfect, but acknowledging your struggle, confessing to God, hiding the scriptures in your heart, and guarding your heart is the way to overcome.Tune in! During this episode, you will learn about:[00:00] Introduction to the show [00:38] Today’s Focus: Conquering Comparison[02:01] What conquering comparison is all about [03:13] Five ways to conquer comparison [03:18] 1. Overcoming hidden jealousy that stems in the heart [05:42] 2. Envy and resentment and how to rise above them[07:47] Developing inner purity; James 3:16, Mat 15:19, Galatians 6:4 [09:45] 3. Discontentment and how to get rid of it through joy and gratitude[13:19] 4. Deprivation and ways to conquer it with truth from the scripture [14:20] Storytime: God has good things in store for you [15:28] 5. Getting rid and conquering covetousness [17:10] A quick recap of the show [18:10] Ending the show and calls to action Scriptures and Quotes: •Examine your heart and realize that you are struggling, be open and confess to God•Hide the word in your heart and conquer jealousy by loving people•When jealousy leads to envy, it becomes evil and causes resentment •There are consequences for comparison, there are consequences for jealousy and envy, and you have to stop them and overcome them•James 3:16 - where envying and strife are, there is confusion, and every evil work•Matthew 15:19 - from the heart comes evil thoughts; murder, sexual immorality, lying, and slander •Comparison allows us to go in a place of self-doubt, not good enough, and when pride gets in the way, we start getting into the I/me factor which is not good or healthy•Choose joy and continue occupying and conquering comparison until Jesus returns for us•1 Timothy 6:6 – Remember, godliness with contentment is great gain •Also, remember that Jesus Christ is coming back, so let’s get ready from the inside out Thank you for listening! If you need prayer or just want to share, reach out to me directly at insideoutwithcourtnaye@gmail.comResources: Grab my FREE ebook, “Compare Not!” at https://www.courtnayerichard.com/comparenotebookHosting an event, visit: https://www.courtnayerichard.com/bookingConnect with me Website: www.courtnayerichard.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/insideoutwithcourtnaye/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/InsideOutWCourtnayeEmail: Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
