Let's face it... Sometimes our children make choices we wouldn't have made, if we had the right to make those decisions for them. I'm not talking about bad decisions here...I'm just talking about decisions that lead them on a different path, or that don't line up with the dreams we had for them. It can be hard to let them lead when we aren't sure about where they're going, but learning to let our children explore, run, and even fail sometimes is one of the most valuable things we can do for them. This season is dedicated to helping our children find their purpose. Ideally, purpose is something we're talking about with our children well before they leave our homes. And for the Christian family, this discussion goes way deeper than just profession, or career choice. What should I do?? I'm confessing today, friends, that most of the time I have no idea what to do, or how to correctly respond to the challenges I face as a mom of two...one who has just launched into the world. There is so much I don't know...but I know the One Who knows it all. That's why I believe there is one prayer that is the most important for a mom to pray during the launch season (and maybe all the way through parenting). We have spent this entire season talking about anger, both in our children and in ourselves. We had a crash course in what anger is from a science or biology standpoint, talked about the cycle of anger, learned what anger is from a biblical standpoint, and even touched on the power of learning to control our thoughts so we can help our children do the same (go back and listen to the season if you haven't already). It's been a robust season from a content perspective, and if the amount of struggle I had putting this season together is any indication, God is moving in people's lives...at least I pray so. Today though, I want to leave everyone with a lot of practical application for helping their children learn to manage anger in a positive way, so I invited counselor Michelle Neitert to join us. What does the Bible have to say about anger? When we're talking about the Biblical application, or understanding of what anger is, we're talking about what's happening in the heart. Early philosophers and scientists, like Aristotle, believed the heart was the place to find the human soul, and the Bible, in some ways, supports this. The Bible has a lot to say about anger, and as a Christian first, and someone with degrees in Psychology and Counseling second, I choose to look at science through the lens of scripture. In today's episode we're going to define the following things: What IS "righteous anger," and can we really use it as an excuse? Why does the Bible say we experience anger? What does anger achieve for us? Are we getting what we want? Where does anger come from?  What should a believer do when they're experiencing sinful anger?
