Everyday Prayers with Million Praying Moms

Look closely at the heart of Mary, Mother of Jesus, this Christmas. Most of the time, the episodes we release are designed to help you get better at praying for your children. But during this sacred season—when the world pauses for just a bit and we reflect on the coming of the Christ—we invite you to focus on your own heart as well. For the next five days, Brooke McGlothlin will share a devotion she wrote called Mary Prayers: 5 Prayers for a Mom's Heart. Each devotion will take a close look at Mary, the mother of Jesus, exploring what scripture tells us about her, and allowing it to influence the way we think about and look at parenting. We'll look closely at how Mary interacted with Jesus, what qualities of womanhood she needed to fulfill the call God placed on her life, and pray for God to make us more like her. A Covid Christmas. Like it or not, that's the Christmas we're all getting this year. It isn't the Christmas we asked for. It certainly isn't the Christmas we all want, but it's the reality we're all dealing with, some of us more deeply than others. We confess...we've been thinking of the change to 2021 with a certain amount of longing. Maybe, at least on a subconscious level, we all have. We've been trained to think of the turning of the new year as a fresh start..or a new beginning. God's mercies are new every morning and we treat a new year the same way. But reality is closing in. Covid will probably not magically disappear on January 1. On today's show, we explore the realities of a Covid Christmas, helping you learn how to find joy despite any difficulties that might come because of it. But we also spend some time exploring how we can make that joy last into 2021, because Covid is not magically going away any time soon, much as we might want it to. Parenting children with special needs, learning disabilities, or mental health challenges can feel overwhelming at times. Even in "normal times," we struggle to make the best decisions for their needs, we worry about how they will fit in with others, we are anxious about what the future will bring, and so much more. And then times of change or challenge hit - a move, a school change, a health issue, or even a pandemic - and the struggles and stress seem to bury us. There is hope. Our guest, Sandra Peoples, is one of the leading voices in the special-needs community. Sandra and her husband Lee have two sons—David and James. James has level 3 autism. They live outside of Houston, TX where Lee is a pastor and Sandra serves as their church’s special-needs ministry director. Sandra also has a sister with Down syndrome which gives her a life-long perspective on being in a special-needs family. It is back-to-school season, but not like one we have ever experienced before.
