Your Daily Prayer

Summer days are not all alike. In Alaska, the midnight sun means nearly 24 hours of light, and something unexpected happens — you sleep less, eat less, and still feel energized, as if the season itself is giving you more than the calendar promises. In Hawaii, closer to the equator, the days split evenly between twelve hours of light and twelve of dark all year round, and somehow the long summer evenings most of America enjoys simply never arrive. Wherever we find ourselves this summer, the length and quality of our days are entirely in God's hands — and that is worth pausing to appreciate. Joshua 10:13 records one of the most remarkable moments in Scripture: the sun standing still in the middle of the sky for nearly a full day as God fought on behalf of His people. The God who orchestrated that miracle is the same God who set the rhythms of sunrise and sunset, who made the moon to mark the seasons and the sun to know when to go down. He designed summer with intention, and He calls us to enjoy it. Ecclesiastes urges us to enjoy life with the people we love, all the days God has given us under the sun. Long summer days are an invitation to reflect, rest, and be refreshed — to guard our lips from grumbling when they feel too long or too short, and instead let praise rise from morning light to evening glow. Every day of summer is a gift from the God who made the sun and holds the seasons in His hand. Today's Bible Verse "The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day."— Joshua 10:13, NIV Ponder Today God designed the seasons with intention — and summer is a gift worth savoring. The length of our days, wherever we live, is no accident. The same God who made the sun stand still in Joshua's day set our summer hours in place for our refreshment and His glory. Every sunrise and sunset reflects the faithfulness of God. Psalm 74:16 reminds us that the day and night both belong to Him. Paying attention to the summer light around us is a simple and profound way to remember whose hands hold our days. Summer offers time to reflect, rest, and be refreshed. The slower pace and longer light of summer are an invitation from God to step back from the relentless forward motion of life and simply receive what He has provided. Guard your lips from grumbling about the season you are in. Whether your summer days feel endless or too short, too hot or too unpredictable, gratitude is always available. Let praise rise from morning to evening rather than complaint. Enjoy life with the people God has placed around you. Ecclesiastes 9:9 is a direct and practical command: enjoy this life, these days, these relationships. Summer is one of God's clearest invitations to do exactly that. A Prayer for You Today Dear Father, thank You for giving us long summer days to bask in warm light and prolonged evening glow. Help us to savor and enjoy each day You give us with the people we love, just as Your Word encourages us to do. Whether we have longer or shorter daylight hours, guard our lips from grumbling and complaining. Let praise come forth from our lips from our morning rising to our evening lying down. On days when it seems like the sun is standing still, strengthen us to choose to savor and enjoy every hour in whatever situation we find ourselves living in. "How have you been?" — "Tired." It is the kind of answer delivered with a chuckle that quietly covers something much heavier underneath. Over ten years of interrupted sleep, four boys who simply do not sleep well in their early years, the exhaustion of pregnancy layered on top of toddler wakings, and a midnight prayer offered somewhere between one waking and the next: God, I know he is a gift — please help me. It is one of the most honest and most human prayers imaginable. And yet, what follows that midnight prayer is something remarkable: a morning realization that weakness has a way of producing what strength never could. When the flesh is genuinely humbled, dependence on God stops being a spiritual discipline and becomes the only option. Fruit grows in that place. The Spirit moves more freely there. Psalm 30:4-5 does not minimize the night of weeping — it simply refuses to let it be the final word. His favor lasts a lifetime. A shout of joy comes in the morning. For those in a season of great difficulty right now, that promise may feel impossibly far away. But the invitation of this episode is urgent and tender all at once: cry out to the Lord, lean on His grace, trust that He is working in the middle of the trial for your good and for His glory, and lift your gaze long enough to choose worship — not because the pain is gone, but because He is faithful even while it remains. Today's Bible Verse "Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning."— Psalm 30:5, NASB Ponder Today Suffering has a way of producing what ease never could. When the flesh is genuinely weakened and we are humbled to our knees, dependence on God becomes not a discipline but a necessity — and in that place, fruit grows and the Spirit moves freely. His favor lasts a lifetime — even when the night feels unending. Psalm 30:5 does not promise a short night. It promises that the night is not the final word. Joy is coming in the morning, in His time and according to His purposes. Cry out to God in the middle of the trial, not just before and after it. The midnight prayer offered in exhaustion — God, I know he is a gift, please help me — is exactly the kind of prayer He is near to and ready to meet. The purpose of pain is often to draw us back to our Father. When life becomes too heavy to carry alone, we are reminded of what was always true: He is near, He is worthy of our praise, and He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). Choose worship before the circumstances change. Praising God in the weary season is not denial — it is one of the most powerful acts of faith available to us. He is faithful whether or not our circumstances shift, and our worship declares that truth out loud. A Prayer for You Today Heavenly Father, I am so weary and weighed down by my current life circumstances. It is difficult for me to see the gift in this trial, but I trust You are using it for my good and for Your glory. Help me to have eyes to see that You are working in my life. My circumstances may not change anytime soon, but please change me in my circumstances to look more like Jesus. Strengthen my faith so that I can lift my voice and praise You, trusting that joy is coming in Your perfect timing. I may be weary, but I choose to worship You because You are forever faithful to me. Help me to look to You and point others to You in this season. You are good. In Jesus' name, Amen. If you were to sit in a quiet room with no distractions and honestly answer the question — what is your number one priority in life — what would you say? It is the kind of question most of us prefer not to sit with too long, because the honest answer is often more complicated than we would like. Children, careers, spouses, finances: these things are not wrong in themselves, but God does not compete for position in our lives. He simply waits, with long-suffering patience, for us to return to Him as our first love. The widow of Zarephath had reached the end of everything. One last meal for herself and her son, and then nothing. When the prophet Elijah arrived with what must have sounded like an absurd request — give me food first, before you feed yourself and your child — her decision to obey was an act of profound, costly faith. She put the man of God first, and as a result, the flour and oil did not run out for the entire duration of the famine. Her obedience was not a transaction. It was trust. Matthew 6:33 captures the principle her life illustrated: seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Putting God first is not about earning blessings. It is about living in honest acknowledgment that everything we have comes from Him, and that He alone is worthy of the first and best of what we have to offer — our time, our finances, our attention, and our hearts. Today's Bible Verse "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you."— Matthew 6:33, KJV Ponder Today God does not compete for first place — but He deserves it. Every good thing in our lives is a gift from Him. Giving Him priority is not a burden He imposes on us. It is the natural and right response to who He is and what He has done. Obedience is the practical expression of putting God first. The widow of Zarephath's faith was demonstrated not in words but in action. Putting God first shows up in how we spend our mornings, our money, our time, and our attention. Our motives for seeking God matter deeply. We do not put God first in order to receive blessing upon blessing. We put Him first because He gave His only Son for flawed, undeserving humans. Pure motives honor Him far more than calculated obedience. Putting God first means removing compartmentalization from our lives. God is not meant to occupy one section of our schedule or one category of our budget. He is meant to be first in every area — no exceptions, no separation. The goal is to hear "well done, good and faithful servant." True success in this life is not measured by what we accumulate but by whether we sought first His kingdom and His righteousness. That eternal perspective changes how we order our daily priorities. A Prayer for You Today Our Father and our God, thank You for Your goodness that extends from generation to generation. There is no one like You, and no one deserves the honor and glory that is Yours alone. Help me to put You first in every area of my life. May my love for You grow each day as I think of Your sacrifice. Remind me that You are always with me, so that when I win it is You, and when I stumble You are there. Help me to seek first the kingdom of God, and help me to die daily to my flesh so that I do not idolize myself or anything You have given me. John the Baptist's instruction to the crowds who came seeking baptism was practical and direct: if you have two shirts, share with the one who has none. If you have food, do the same. True repentance, he made clear, is not merely a change of heart. It produces a change in action. This principle runs throughout Scripture, from the Old Testament commands not to harvest a field a second time so the poor could glean, to the early church where believers regularly shared their resources with those in need as a natural overflow of the Holy Spirit's work in their lives. For those who follow Christ today, the same call remains: act justly, love mercy, walk humbly. Care for the poor and the hungry as if we were directly caring for our Savior Himself. Whatever we have been given, whether much or little, we are stewards of it — and wise stewardship means holding it with open hands, grateful for what we have and quick to share from any surplus with those who have not. As the Holy Spirit produces love, kindness, and compassion in us, caring for others with our resources stops being an obligation and becomes a genuine expression of faith. Whatever we do for the poor and hungry, we do for Christ Himself. Matthew 25:34-40 makes this staggering connection unmistakably clear. Stewardship is not just a financial principle — it is an act of worship directed toward our Savior. We live in a culture that promotes gaining more and wasting freely. Reorienting our priorities around what God cares about — justice, mercy, compassion, and love — requires intentional effort and the Spirit's ongoing work in our hearts. Contentment and generosity grow together. When we are genuinely grateful for what we have and hold it with open hands, we become more attentive to the needs around us and more willing to give from whatever surplus we carry. A Prayer for You Today Lord, forgive me for the times I have wasted my resources. I live in a society that values gaining more, often more than I need, while promoting wastefulness at the same time. As I lean into my relationship with You, help me reorient my priorities around what You care about: justice, mercy, compassion, love, and kindness. Produce in me by Your Holy Spirit the actions that flow from genuine faith. Let me live with contentment, thankful for the necessities You provide, and with open hands and an open heart that is quick to think of others. Guide me to give from any area of surplus to bless those in need. And in every circumstance, may I care for others as if I were directly serving You, my Savior. In Your name, Jesus, I pray. Amen. Have you ever read a passage of Scripture and felt completely lost? The idea that the Bible is written at a level an elementary-age child can comprehend may be true of its central message — that God loves us and has provided a way back to Himself through Jesus — but anyone who has worked through the book of Leviticus, wrestled with apocalyptic prophecy, or landed in an unfamiliar epistle knows that some passages require more than a quiet moment and good intentions. They require community. The story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch is not often cited as a key discipleship text, but it captures something essential about how God designed His Word to be understood. An Ethiopian official, returning from worship in Jerusalem, was reading Isaiah 53 aloud — a Messianic passage he genuinely could not interpret without help. Philip, prompted by the Spirit, approached him and asked if he understood what he was reading. The eunuch's response is honest and beautiful: how can I, unless someone explains it to me? That willingness to ask opened the door to a conversation that led to his salvation and baptism. Spiritual knowledge is transferable. God's Word is meant to be studied in community. And whether we are new to the faith and need someone to explain what we are reading, or we are seasoned believers with something to give, every one of us has a role to play in helping others understand the timeless truths of Scripture. Today's Bible Verse "How can I," he said, "unless someone explains to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him."— Acts 8:31, NIV Ponder Today There is no shame in asking for help understanding Scripture. The Ethiopian eunuch was a man of significant position and faith, and he openly admitted he needed someone to explain what he was reading. That honesty opened the door to life-changing truth. Spiritual knowledge is transferable — and sharing it is a privilege. God has gifted men and women throughout the body of Christ with the ability to rightly interpret and unpack Scripture. Believers with mature faith are called to invest that knowledge in others (Titus 2:3-4; Ephesians 4:12-13). God's Word is designed to be studied in community. Making disciples involves active, engaged Bible study together. Commentaries, sermons, conversations with other believers, and corporate worship are all legitimate and valuable tools for growing in understanding. Listen when the Holy Spirit prompts you to come alongside someone. Philip could have kept walking. Instead, he obeyed the Spirit's nudge, asked a simple question, and participated in one of the most significant evangelistic encounters recorded in Acts. God's Word never returns empty. Not every conversation will produce instant, visible results the way Philip's did. But Isaiah 55:11 assures us that what God's Word goes out to accomplish, it will accomplish — in His timing and according to His purpose. A Prayer for You Today Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for the gift of the body of believers. How wonderful to know that when I accepted Christ, I was adopted into a family of faith. Help me embrace the gifts of community Bible study, corporate worship, and personal Scripture reading. When I have questions or am wrestling with the text, I ask that the Holy Spirit guide and direct me to proper understanding and application. And when I see others who need support, may I come alongside them and impart biblical wisdom. Help us to humbly serve one another through teaching, discipleship, service, and love. Sitting quietly at a desk, hands folded, attention on the teacher — and being called a snob for it. The substitute teacher's words cut deep, not only because of the insult itself, but because of what it feels like to have something good about you twisted into something shameful. Quietness mistaken for indifference. Attentiveness mistaken for pride. The tears didn't fall until later, but the sting of being misunderstood lingered long after the school day ended. Most of us carry memories like that one. And while our experiences do not compare to what Christ endured, Isaiah 53 makes clear that our Savior knows this pain intimately. He was despised and rejected, falsely accused, sentenced and crucified as a criminal — though He was the sinless Lamb of God. He endured the worst misunderstanding in human history, and He bore it with grace. That means when we bring our tears of being misjudged to Him, we are not bringing them to someone who cannot relate. We are bringing them to the One who understands most deeply of all, and who invites us to entrust our case to the Father who sees the truth clearly. And in that posture of trust, something else can grow: a greater willingness to listen, to withhold quick judgment, and to seek to understand others the way we long to be understood. Today's Bible Verse "He was despised and rejected — a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked away. He was despised, and we did not care."— Isaiah 53:3, NLT Ponder Today Jesus knows the pain of being misunderstood — more deeply than any of us ever will. The sinless Son of God was accused, condemned, and crucified as a criminal. He is not a distant Savior who offers sympathy from afar. He empathizes from experience. We can entrust our case to the Father, who sees the truth perfectly. When others misjudge us and there is nothing we can do to correct the record, we can follow Jesus' example in 1 Peter 2:23 and commit our situation to the One who judges justly. Being misunderstood is painful — and it is okay to bring that pain to God. The tears that sting when we are falsely judged are not too small for Him. He sees the truth clearly, and He cares about what it costs us when others do not. Seek to understand rather than to be understood. The words attributed to St. Francis of Assisi capture something of the grace Christ modeled: the goal is not to be vindicated in everyone's eyes, but to respond with the same grace and humility with which He endured false accusation. A Prayer for You Today Precious Savior, You know the stab of pain that comes when others misunderstand and slander what was done in good faith. You, the spotless Lamb of God, were falsely accused and sentenced to death as a criminal. As I take comfort in Your empathy, help me learn from this experience — to remember the sorrow of incorrect judgment so I may grow in my ability to listen and understand others. I do not want to hastily judge others, just as I do not want others to impulsively judge me. Let Your grace guide me to spend more time listening and observing than quickly voicing my opinions. And even if others never come to recognize the truth, I trust my pain to You, because You know all things and You are the Righteous Judge. In Your name, Christ, I pray. Amen. What does it look like to trust God when He calls you into some of the world's most difficult and dangerous places? In this powerful episode, Kristy experiences firsthand what Samaritan's Purse Disaster Assistance Response Team members endure as they prepare to serve during the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Bev Kauffeldt, who has served on the last two Ebola responses, led Kristy through the training. Kristy got into the many layers of personal protection equipment to experience the process our DART members go through in the field. This inspired Kristy as she experienced the discomfort our teams willingly step into as they fight this dangerous outbreak. It also helped her know how to pray for our teams more specifically. At the training, Bev talked with Kristy about a passage of Scripture that has been on her heart: “This verse—I shared it with the team today because it's so perfect. In Acts 20:24, Paul says my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus, the work of telling others of the good news about the wonderful grace of God.” — Bev Kauffeldt, paraphrasing Acts 20:24 As believers, we must have a posture of humility. Someone who speaks into this posture in this Ebola response is Dustin Martin, a water, sanitation and hygiene technical advisor who supports Samaritan's Purse field offices around the world. Dustin will likely go to the DRC soon. He shared how he is preparing both physically and spiritually to be deployed and why he desires to go serve in this dangerous situation. “I want to be able to go to the ends of the earth for people that I haven't even met before because that's what Christ did for me. He took on humility. He took on human form when He had no need to. And if He did that for me, there's just no appropriate response but to do that for others.” — Dustin Martin Once Kristy was out of the personal protective equipment, she met Kate Allen, an emergency doctor, who the Lord has called and sent to many DART responses, including Ukraine and Iraq. They spoke about putting on the armor of God, trusting that the Lord goes before us. We are not promised safety, but God does promise that He is with us always. “God doesn't say you're going to be absolutely fine … but He does promise that He goes with us. And He promises that He goes ahead. And He promises He hems us in from behind. Abraham waited twenty-five years for the fulfillment of God's promise of a son. And then, after that miraculous birth, God asked him to give Isaac back — to take him to Mount Moriah and offer him as a sacrifice. Abraham obeyed. And at the moment the knife was raised, God provided a ram caught in the thicket, sparing Isaac's life and revealing His name: Jehovah Jireh, the Lord Who Provides. It is one of Scripture's most dramatic and tender moments, and it carries a truth that reaches far beyond financial provision into every corner of human need. Jehovah Jireh provides vehicles, homes, spouses, friends, babies, jobs, purpose, and direction. But He also provides peace in the storm, comfort in grief, and sustenance when we have hit rock bottom. The Lord runs short of nothing. And even when what we are asking for is not in His will, He is still providing — just not always in the form we expected or on the timeline we were watching. A wedding toast offered a simple and striking observation: the Lord was not looking at His watch the way everyone else was. There is a time for everything, and His timing is always perfect. Most profoundly of all, before He ever provided anything else, God the Father provided a way back to Himself through Jesus Christ — the ultimate fulfillment of the ram on Mount Moriah, the perfect sacrifice who took our place on that same mountain two thousand years later. Today's Bible Verse "And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, 'In the Mount of The Lord it shall be provided.'"— Genesis 22:14, NKJV Ponder Today Jehovah Jireh provides far more than financial needs. His provision encompasses every dimension of human life — relationships, purpose, direction, peace, comfort, and strength. Whatever you are lacking today, He is able to supply it. When God does not provide what we ask for, He still provides what we need. Peace in the storm, comfort in grief, and sustenance at rock bottom are all forms of His provision. He never leaves a need unmet, even when His answer looks different from what we expected. God is not looking at His watch the way we are. His timing is not late, even when it feels that way to us. Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a time for everything — and the moment God chooses to provide is always the right moment. Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment of Jehovah Jireh. Just as the ram took Isaac's place on Mount Moriah, Jesus took ours on that same mountain two thousand years later. If God the Father never did anything else for us, sending His Son would have been enough. Ask God to open your eyes to provision you have already received. We often focus on what we are still waiting for and miss what God has already given. Recognizing His past provision builds the trust that carries us through the current season of waiting. A Prayer for You Today Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for who You are — for always being all that we need and always having all that we need. I do not know what each person needs today, but You do. If they are weary, please give them endurance and encouragement. If they are downcast, please lift their head. If they are waiting, please give them joy in the midst of it. If they are grieving, be their comfort. If they are in a storm, please give them Your peace. If they are short on funds, please provide. Please help us to know You and see You as Jehovah Jireh, and open our eyes to see how You have already been providing all along. Thank You for providing salvation to all who confess with their mouth and believe in their hearts that Jesus is Lord. We love You. Help us to trust in You. Amen. Choosing a word for the year is a practice many people embrace at the start of January, and one year the word chosen was peace — not because peace felt abundant, but because it felt so elusive. When the normal soundtrack of life is stress, depression, anxiety, and emptiness cycling through in turns, peace becomes the thing most desperately wanted and least easily held. And there is something both brave and freeing about naming that honestly rather than pretending otherwise. Philippians 4:6-7 does not promise a life free from anxiety-inducing circumstances. It offers something better: a peace that transcends all understanding, available in every situation, accessed through prayer and petition and a heart of thanksgiving. The peace of God is not a feeling we manufacture through discipline or positive thinking. It is a gift we receive when we bring our actual troubles, worries, and fears before God rather than hiding them from Him. He is not surprised by our distress. He cares about every struggle and every anxious thought passing through our minds. And though peace can feel as quick as a breeze — arriving for a moment and then gone again when the next hard thing lands — God is always bringing light from darkness, always working all things together for the good of those who love Him. We do not have to see it clearly to trust that it is happening. We simply need to turn to Him, rest in His presence, and receive the peace that He alone can give. Today's Bible Verse "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."— Philippians 4:6-7, NIV Ponder Today God's peace is not something we manufacture — it is something we receive. Philippians 4:6-7 does not instruct us to calm ourselves down. It instructs us to bring everything to God in prayer and thanksgiving, and then receive the peace He gives in return. You do not have to hide your troubles from God. He cares about every single struggle, worry, and anxious thought passing through your mind (1 Peter 5:7). Bringing your real, unfiltered concerns before Him is not a burden to Him — it is an invitation He welcomes. Peace received from God changes how we move through the world. When we are walking in the peace of Jesus, troubles continue to come — but they do not have to level us. We face them from a place of steadiness rather than constant distress. A Prayer for You Today Dear God, Your peace is amazing, and I pray that You help me to experience it. Bring my heart to You and allow my feet to stand before You on a steady foundation. Through prayer and petition and a heart of thanksgiving, I present my requests to You. Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus. I often do not feel Your peace, but I know that it is there. Please help me feel it every day, and when I do not, help me remember that it is always available. I need comfort and solace. There are two primary reasons we fail to grow in our understanding of God: pride and deceit. And the almost immediate internal response to reading that — "no, I don't think that's true of me" — is itself the clearest possible proof that both are present. It is the kind of honest, uncomfortable self-recognition that opens the door to genuine growth, and this episode begins right there, in that awkward and necessary moment of seeing ourselves clearly. C.S. Lewis observed that God whispers in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, and shouts in our pains — and it is often through trials, mistakes, and long seasons of waiting that we come to know Him most deeply. Ephesians 3:16-19 captures the staggering scope of what is available to us in that knowing: the width, length, height, and depth of a love that surpasses knowledge, and the fullness of God Himself dwelling in us through faith. No matter how far we feel from Him, we can always draw near. And no matter how long we have known Him, there is always more to know. Today's Bible Verse "I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."— Ephesians 3:17-19, NIV Ponder Today Pride and deceit are the two primary barriers to growing in our knowledge of God. The fact that we instinctively resist that diagnosis is itself evidence of their presence. Recognizing them honestly, rather than defending against them, is where growth begins. God responds to our failures with patient, protective love — not condemnation. Like a tender father who listens attentively and then acts on our behalf, God does not leave us alone in our shame. He draws near, hears us out, and moves to protect us. Trials, conflicts, and seasons of waiting are often where we come to know God most deeply. Just as working through a conflict with another person reveals their character in ways ease never does, our hardest seasons reveal God to us in ways that comfort alone cannot. Humility is the posture that opens us to growth. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). Choosing to come before Him with a teachable, honest, and open heart is the single most important thing we can do to grow closer to Him. A Prayer for You Today Dear Heavenly Father, please forgive us for our pride and our deceit. I pray that You would help us to have humble hearts so that we can get to know You better. As we draw near to You, show us where we have been wrong so we can keep short accounts with You. You say that You oppose the proud but give grace to the humble — Father, we need Your grace. We want to know You better, but we often let too many things come before You. Please help us seek You first so we can grow closer to You, and help us make much of You and not ourselves. We need You.
