Choosing to Honor Our Imperfect Parents
May 26, 2025 - 5 min
Tonight’s Scripture“Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” — Proverbs 23:22 Evening Meditation:Honoring our parents can be difficult, especially when they’ve let us down. But God’s command doesn’t come with an exception clause. In a culture quick to cancel people, even family, God’s Word stands firm: “Honor your father and mother” (see Ephesians 6:2-3). This isn’t just a suggestion; it’s a command with a promise of blessing. Dishonoring our parents, regardless of how we justify it, can lead to spiritual darkness and bitterness (see Proverbs 20:20). Instead, we’re called to forgive their failings and reflect the grace that God has shown us. Honoring imperfect parents isn’t about denying pain or pretending everything was okay. It’s about choosing obedience to God above our emotions, releasing bitterness, and making peace where possible. Even if our parents are no longer living, we can still honor their memory in ways that point to grace and redemption. Your Nightly PrayerDear Father,Thank you for our parents. Give us the fortitude to look past their imperfections and to honor them because You ask us to. Help us to forgive them for the ways they have failed us, hurt us, and let us down. Free us to let go of our failures, weaknesses, and deficiencies because You forgive us. Strengthen us to do what pleases You over our own feelings and reasoning. In Jesus’ name,Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon How are your attitudes and actions toward your parents reflecting the honor God calls you to show? What are your words and behavior teaching your children or others about honoring authority and elders? If your parents have passed away, how can you still honor their memory in a way that glorifies God? Main Takeaways Honoring our parents is a command rooted in God’s design, not based on their performance. Forgiveness and grace empower us to honor them, even when it’s hard. Our obedience brings peace, blesses future generations, and pleases God. Call to Action Reflect on your relationship with your parents and ask God to help you walk in obedience and grace. Share this episode with someone navigating the complexities of honoring difficult parents. Read and meditate on Ephesians 6:2-3 and Proverbs 23:22. Patience of Hope
May 23, 2025 - 5 min
Tonight’s Scripture"We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ." — 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Evening MeditationWaiting is never easy. In a world of instant results and same-day shipping, patience often feels like a lost virtue. But scripture teaches us that endurance—especially the kind that’s rooted in hope—is not just necessary, it’s sacred. 1 Thessalonians 1:3 tells us that endurance is inspired by hope in Jesus Christ. When we are tempted to quit, hope reminds us of God’s promises. Patience is not passive; it’s active trust in God's timing and character. Whether it’s a long-awaited answer to prayer or simply getting through a hard day, the presence of God in the waiting is our peace. And when we endure by faith, trusting in His goodness, we become more like Him—full of love, joy, peace, and patience. Your Nightly PrayerHeavenly Father,I confess I hate waiting, but you are worth it. You are patient with me, and your love calls me to be transformed into your likeness. Help me to trust in your timing, even when I’m weary. Teach me to endure with hope in you and your promises, not frustration. Overflow my heart with your love and the fruit of the Spirit, your divine character. Comfort me with your presence in the delay, and remind me that your promises won’t fail. Give me strength for today and hope for tomorrow in your Son.In Jesus’ name,Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon Have you ever had to wait a long time for something you deeply desired? What did you learn when it finally arrived—or didn’t? Reflect on the many ways God has shown patience with you. How might He be inviting you to show that same patience toward others? Are there struggles or difficult people in your life right now where God may be teaching you endurance? How can His Spirit guide your response? Main Takeaways Patience is not weakness; it’s a reflection of God’s character and a fruit of the Spirit. Endurance in trials is inspired by the sure hope we have in Jesus. God's presence in the waiting is just as valuable as the promise we’re waiting for. Call to Action Ask God to transform your impatience into endurance by the power of hope. Share this episode with someone who feels stuck in a season of waiting. Meditate on 1 Thessalonians 1:3 and invite God to stir your hope afresh. The Power of Proclaiming Forgiveness
May 22, 2025 - 7 min
Tonight’s Scripture"And when Jesus had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them.'" — John 20:22-23 Evening Reflection:Forgiveness is a powerful, Spirit-filled gift we can proclaim over others. Kyle Norman reflects on a childhood experience where he felt a deep, spiritual desire to declare forgiveness, not just casually, but as a divine proclamation of grace. This mirrors Jesus’ words to His disciples after breathing the Holy Spirit upon them: “If you forgive anyone their sins, they are forgiven.” As followers of Jesus, we are called to extend the message of His love, grace, and forgiveness to those burdened by shame or guilt. Many carry unseen spiritual weights, wondering if God could ever accept them. You have been empowered to speak hope and truth into those lives. Consider: Who in your life needs to hear that they are loved, seen, and forgiven by God? How might you be the one to speak that truth aloud? Your Nightly PrayerDearest Jesus,Proclaiming your forgiveness is an awesome and profound privilege. Your forgiveness is what frees me to embrace you as robustly as I can. Your forgiveness is what transforms my life each day. Help me to proclaim this message to others, particularly to that person you are calling me to. Give me the words to say that will break through any defense or doubt, so that they may feel the soothing balm of your forgiveness wash over them. As your devoted follower, I pray that you bring me to the right person, at the right time, so that I might declare your forgiveness in their life.I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon Jesus gave the command to forgive only after giving the Holy Spirit. How can you rely more on the Spirit’s power when extending grace to others? Reflect on how Jesus was sent by the Father. In what ways are you also sent into the world with a message of hope and redemption? When have you heard a declaration of forgiveness in church? How did it impact you? Is this something you need to hear again today? Main Takeaways Forgiveness is a Spirit-empowered privilege for every believer. We are sent, like Jesus, to proclaim God’s love and grace to others. You can be the voice of healing someone desperately needs. Call to Action Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for daily encouragement rooted in God’s Word. Think of someone who needs to hear they are forgiven—pray for an opportunity to share that with them. Choosing to Choose Your Marriage Every Day
May 21, 2025 - 5 min
Tonight’s Scripture“Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” — Mark 10:9 Evening MeditationWhether you’re married or not, we all play a role in honoring marriage. By living out godly marriages, encouraging others in theirs, and supporting singles in their desire for marriage, we uplift what God has ordained as sacred. In a world filled with cynicism about marriage, we can stand apart by choosing words and attitudes that reflect its God-given value. Ephesians 4:29 reminds us to speak words that build others up—this applies to how we speak about our own spouse, others’ marriages, and even those yet to marry. God established marriage in Genesis 2:24 as a holy union—a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church. This covenant, not just a contract, is a sacred bond requiring intentionality and care. Ephesians 5:25 calls husbands to love sacrificially, mirroring Christ’s love. And Hebrews 13:4 emphasizes how God sanctifies and honors the marriage relationship. Even on the hard days, we are called to speak life into our marriages and the institution of marriage as a whole. In doing so, we reflect God’s heart and contribute to a culture that honors what He has joined together. Your Nightly PrayerDear Father,We thank You for the gift of marriage—for creating, ordaining, and sanctifying it. Help those of us who are married to protect and cherish our relationships. Lead us in strengthening our own marriages and encouraging others in theirs. Fill our mouths with words that honor the sacredness of marriage, uplifting others whether they are married or hoping to be.In Jesus’ name, Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon Are there couples you know who are struggling in their marriages and could use some encouragement? Are there ways you can foster and celebrate their relationships in ways that uplift and strengthen their union? Ask God to help you pray for your own marriage and for married couples around you, for strength and endurance to make it through challenging times. Do you know single individuals who want to marry? Are there ways you can help facilitate and be instrumental in bringing singles together in marriage? Main Takeaways Marriage is a sacred covenant established by God. Speaking life into marriage honors God and builds others up. We all have a role to play in supporting, encouraging, and celebrating marriage. Call to Action Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for biblically grounded encouragement. Speak words that honor and support marriage in your conversations this week. How to Let Go of Your Regrets
May 20, 2025 - 5 min
Tonight’s Scripture“One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I pursue as my goal the prize promised by God’s heavenly call in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:13-14 Evening MeditationWe all have regrets—moments we wish we could rewrite. But as Paul reminds us, dwelling on the past only drains us and distracts us from our present calling. In Philippians 3, he speaks of pressing forward toward God’s promises, not backward toward old failures. Christ has taken hold of us. He is sanctifying us by His Spirit, and He isn’t letting go. The person you once were is not who you are now in Christ. To dwell on past sins, long since repented of and forgiven, is to trade the beauty of God’s grace for the weight of unnecessary guilt. What does it look like to move forward? Each night, we can pray for the strength to live fully in the present. Fixing our minds on Jesus’ sacrifice—not our shortcomings—restores peace. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us we are new creations. When regret comes knocking, recall Christ’s resurrection and rest in the truth that your salvation is secure in His work, not yours. Your Nightly PrayerFather,When I think back and start to ruminate on past mistakes, filling my mind with regrets, it pulls me out of myself. I know you are the key to rest. Sleep is such a gift—show me how to claim that gift in the present and not live in the past. Show me how to claim the gift of a redeemed life, and let go of myself so I can embrace the life you have given me so that I can live for your glory in the morning.Thank you, Jesus, amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon Jesus paid it all. It’s so simple, and we hear it often, but the truth is our debt is paid, and one of the ways we honor God is by believing it to the point where we can rest. For everything you regret, there are also choices you can look back on with peace. Prepare yourself for the onslaught of your regrets by focusing on that alternative list. The promises of Jesus, which have been fulfilled, can encourage us to look ahead with confidence to the promise of His return. Our regrets and our successes are eclipsed in importance, beauty, and power by “the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord” — Philippians 3:8 Main Takeaways Living in regret drains us; living in grace empowers us. Christ has taken hold of us—we can release the past and embrace the future. Rest comes from trusting fully in the finished work of Jesus. Labor of Love
May 19, 2025 - 4 min
Tonight’s Scripture"We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love." — 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Something to PonderMy wife understands the labor of love. Our first child was born in South Korea, and she wanted to have it naturally. In a Korean hospital, I watched her labor for hours, pushing for longer than normal, enduring pain and hardship, all while navigating a different culture. For a reason. For love. She loved our child and wanted to see him, hold him, care for him. She persevered through labor not out of obligation or duty but out of love. Today, love is often equated with pleasure and emotional satisfaction. The world emphasizes a kind of love rooted in what feels good—what the Greeks called eros. But God's love—agape—is different. It’s selfless, sacrificial, and focused on what is best for others, even when it’s difficult. Through Christ, God demonstrated this agape love. Jesus didn’t enjoy the cross, but he endured it for the joy set before him—to redeem and reconcile us to the Father. God calls us to this same kind of love: a labor of love that isn’t about pain for its own sake, but for the purpose of redemption, hope, and eternal good. Laboring in love doesn’t always feel rewarding in the moment, but it produces fruit that lasts. As we follow the Spirit, love can sustain us through hardship because it keeps our eyes on what’s ahead—on the joy of glorifying God and loving others well. Your Nightly PrayerHeavenly Father,Thank you for showing us true love through Christ’s sacrifice. Teach us to labor in love, not for duty but redemption. Help us endure hardship with hope, just as Jesus did on the cross for the joy set before him. Let our love reflect your heart, seeking the eternal good of others. Empower us to follow your Spirit even when it’s hard, and remind us that love bears all things for your glory and our good.In Jesus’ name, Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon Looking back, what were some ways your parents or another adult showed you love through their sacrifice? How has God shown you his love through his sacrifice? What should your response be? Who are the people in your life God has called you to love? How can you give of yourself to show his care and grace? Main Takeaways God's love is selfless, sacrificial, and redemptive. True love often requires hard work, but it is rooted in eternal purpose. We are called to reflect Christ’s love by persevering through difficulty for the good of others. Call to Action Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for daily spiritual encouragement. Are You Fighting the Good Fight?
May 16, 2025 - 5 min
Tonight’s Scripture“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” — 1 Timothy 6:12 Something to PonderMany of us try to avoid conflict—in our homes, workplaces, communities, and especially online. We long to live in peace, echoing Paul’s encouragement in Romans 12:18: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” But a peaceful faith-filled life doesn't mean a passive one. There are times when faith demands a fight. The Apostle Paul himself spent much of his ministry facing opposition and even imprisonment. He knew that living a bold, uncompromising life for Christ would bring spiritual warfare. And today, our faith is still challenged daily—by cultural pressures, personal battles, and the enemy of our souls. Paul calls us not just to live peacefully, but to fight faithfully. He reminds us in Ephesians 6 to put on the full armor of God so that we can stand firm against evil. This spiritual battle isn’t fought with weapons of anger or division, but with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. In moments of challenge, we are not left defenseless—we are equipped. Your Nightly PrayerDear Father,As Paul encourages, help us to live in peace as much as possible in our lives. As well, strengthen and uplift us to put on Your armor so that we can fight the good fight of faith when needed. Help us to stand firm in our faith and fight when necessary, to not back down or lie down when challenged by the enemy. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon What do you do when challenged about your faith? Do you choose to say nothing, or do you turn to God and ask Him to help you address it in a way that honors Him? In times of spiritual battles, where are you finding your strength? If asked to deny your faith, how do you respond? Are you presently facing a challenge to your faith? If so, ask God to help you put on His full armor so that you can stand firm. Main Takeaways Living in peace doesn’t mean avoiding all spiritual conflict. Faith often calls for courage, confrontation, and spiritual readiness. God provides spiritual armor so we can stand firm and fight with strength and truth. Call to Action Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for daily spiritual encouragement. Share this episode with someone who needs strength to face a spiritual battle. God Cares About Your Joy
May 15, 2025 - 4 min
SCRIPTURE OF THE NIGHT "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love... These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." — John 15:9–11 (ESV) EPISODE SUMMARY In this gentle reflection, Robert Hampshire shares how his early view of Christianity as joyless was transformed through the words of Jesus in John 15. Far from being a distant rule-giver, God delights in our joy. When we abide in His love and live in obedience to His Word, we experience the fullness of true joy—not fleeting pleasure, but lasting, soul-deep joy. YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Heavenly Father,You who created us know us best. And you alone are the one who can make known to us the path of life, and in you alone are pleasures forevermore. Help me to trust your plan for my life, to seek true, lasting joy that is only found in you, and to abide in you and in your love.In Jesus' Name,Amen. MAIN TAKEAWAYS God desires your joy to be full, not just your behavior to be disciplined. Abiding in Christ means resting in His love, obeying His ways, and inviting Him into every part of life. Our culture often defines joy through entertainment, but God defines it through intimacy with Him. True joy flows naturally when we live for God's glory, not the world’s approval. CALL TO ACTION Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for restful, scripture-based meditations. Share this message with someone who needs a reminder of God’s heart for their happiness. How Much Control Do We Actually Have over Our Thought Life?
May 14, 2025 - 8 min
Your Nightly Prayer for May 14, 2025Written and led by Tracie Miles SCRIPTURE OF THE NIGHT “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”— Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Dear Lord,Please help me be aware of when I’m letting my mind linger in a room that is causing me angst instead of joy. Guide my thoughts into those rooms where blessings and abundance reside, and help me make a habit of choosing optimism in the present rather than regret over the past. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. EPISODE SUMMARY In tonight’s reflection, Tracie Miles shares a vulnerable and powerful story about life after divorce and learning to take control of her thought life. Through the imagery of mental "rooms," she explores how intentionally choosing joy can change the emotional atmosphere of our lives. Rooted in Proverbs 17:22, this devotional encourages us to let God guide our minds into spaces of blessing, not burden. MAIN TAKEAWAYS You can choose which mental "rooms" to visit—some lead to grief, others to gratitude. Scripture reminds us that joy has healing power; negativity weighs down the spirit. Taking control of your thoughts requires intention, awareness, and reliance on God. Joy is a choice, and so is the refusal to dwell on what no longer serves your spiritual growth. Forgetting the Former Things
May 13, 2025 - 7 min
Your Nightly Prayer for May 13, 2025Written and led by Kyle Norman SCRIPTURE OF THE NIGHT “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”— Isaiah 43:18 (NIV) In tonight’s devotional, Kyle Norman guides us through a powerful reflection on Isaiah 43:18, inviting us to let go of the sins, memories, or even past successes that no longer serve our spiritual growth. With a relatable metaphor from the kitchen to the exile of Israel, Kyle reveals how clinging to the past keeps us from perceiving God’s active, redeeming presence in our lives today. This episode is an invitation to repentance, renewal, and trust in the "new thing" God is doing—right now. MAIN TAKEAWAYS Discover why rehearsing the past—both failures and triumphs—can prevent spiritual growth. Learn how repentance isn’t about shame, but about turning to embrace God’s current work. See Isaiah 43 in a fresh light: not as condemnation, but as a promise of renewal and hope. Reflect on how God’s redemption is not just personal, but communal—inviting your whole spiritual community to awaken to new life. YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Gracious Lord Jesus,I thank you for your work in my life. I thank you for every day I rise into your loving care, and you allow me to embrace the new things that you do in my life. Lord, help me forget the things that keep me from you. Open my heart to perceive the wonders of your presence, bless my eyes to see your work. And in those moments when I may be tempted to rehearse past sins, help me put aside the voices of guilt and shame, so that I might turn and embrace the new life you call me to.
