Tonight’s Scripture"We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love." — 1 Thessalonians 1:3 Something to PonderMy wife understands the labor of love. Our first child was born in South Korea, and she wanted to have it naturally. In a Korean hospital, I watched her labor for hours, pushing for longer than normal, enduring pain and hardship, all while navigating a different culture. For a reason. For love. She loved our child and wanted to see him, hold him, care for him. She persevered through labor not out of obligation or duty but out of love. Today, love is often equated with pleasure and emotional satisfaction. The world emphasizes a kind of love rooted in what feels good—what the Greeks called eros. But God's love—agape—is different. It’s selfless, sacrificial, and focused on what is best for others, even when it’s difficult. Through Christ, God demonstrated this agape love. Jesus didn’t enjoy the cross, but he endured it for the joy set before him—to redeem and reconcile us to the Father. God calls us to this same kind of love: a labor of love that isn’t about pain for its own sake, but for the purpose of redemption, hope, and eternal good. Laboring in love doesn’t always feel rewarding in the moment, but it produces fruit that lasts. As we follow the Spirit, love can sustain us through hardship because it keeps our eyes on what’s ahead—on the joy of glorifying God and loving others well. Your Nightly PrayerHeavenly Father,Thank you for showing us true love through Christ’s sacrifice. Teach us to labor in love, not for duty but redemption. Help us endure hardship with hope, just as Jesus did on the cross for the joy set before him. Let our love reflect your heart, seeking the eternal good of others. Empower us to follow your Spirit even when it’s hard, and remind us that love bears all things for your glory and our good.In Jesus’ name, Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon Looking back, what were some ways your parents or another adult showed you love through their sacrifice? How has God shown you his love through his sacrifice? What should your response be? Who are the people in your life God has called you to love? How can you give of yourself to show his care and grace? Main Takeaways God's love is selfless, sacrificial, and redemptive. True love often requires hard work, but it is rooted in eternal purpose. We are called to reflect Christ’s love by persevering through difficulty for the good of others. Call to Action Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for daily spiritual encouragement. Tonight’s Scripture“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” — 1 Timothy 6:12 Something to PonderMany of us try to avoid conflict—in our homes, workplaces, communities, and especially online. We long to live in peace, echoing Paul’s encouragement in Romans 12:18: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” But a peaceful faith-filled life doesn't mean a passive one. There are times when faith demands a fight. The Apostle Paul himself spent much of his ministry facing opposition and even imprisonment. He knew that living a bold, uncompromising life for Christ would bring spiritual warfare. And today, our faith is still challenged daily—by cultural pressures, personal battles, and the enemy of our souls. Paul calls us not just to live peacefully, but to fight faithfully. He reminds us in Ephesians 6 to put on the full armor of God so that we can stand firm against evil. This spiritual battle isn’t fought with weapons of anger or division, but with truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and the Word of God. In moments of challenge, we are not left defenseless—we are equipped. Your Nightly PrayerDear Father,As Paul encourages, help us to live in peace as much as possible in our lives. As well, strengthen and uplift us to put on Your armor so that we can fight the good fight of faith when needed. Help us to stand firm in our faith and fight when necessary, to not back down or lie down when challenged by the enemy. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Three Things to Meditate Upon What do you do when challenged about your faith? Do you choose to say nothing, or do you turn to God and ask Him to help you address it in a way that honors Him? In times of spiritual battles, where are you finding your strength? If asked to deny your faith, how do you respond? Are you presently facing a challenge to your faith? If so, ask God to help you put on His full armor so that you can stand firm. Main Takeaways Living in peace doesn’t mean avoiding all spiritual conflict. Faith often calls for courage, confrontation, and spiritual readiness. God provides spiritual armor so we can stand firm and fight with strength and truth. SCRIPTURE OF THE NIGHT "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love... These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." — John 15:9–11 (ESV) EPISODE SUMMARY In this gentle reflection, Robert Hampshire shares how his early view of Christianity as joyless was transformed through the words of Jesus in John 15. Far from being a distant rule-giver, God delights in our joy. When we abide in His love and live in obedience to His Word, we experience the fullness of true joy—not fleeting pleasure, but lasting, soul-deep joy. YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Heavenly Father,You who created us know us best. And you alone are the one who can make known to us the path of life, and in you alone are pleasures forevermore. Help me to trust your plan for my life, to seek true, lasting joy that is only found in you, and to abide in you and in your love.In Jesus' Name,Amen. MAIN TAKEAWAYS God desires your joy to be full, not just your behavior to be disciplined. Abiding in Christ means resting in His love, obeying His ways, and inviting Him into every part of life. Our culture often defines joy through entertainment, but God defines it through intimacy with Him. True joy flows naturally when we live for God's glory, not the world’s approval. CALL TO ACTION Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for restful, scripture-based meditations. Share this message with someone who needs a reminder of God’s heart for their happiness. Reflect in your journal on how you’ve misunderstood joy—and how God is redeeming it. Your Nightly Prayer for May 14, 2025Written and led by Tracie Miles SCRIPTURE OF THE NIGHT “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”— Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Dear Lord,Please help me be aware of when I’m letting my mind linger in a room that is causing me angst instead of joy. Guide my thoughts into those rooms where blessings and abundance reside, and help me make a habit of choosing optimism in the present rather than regret over the past. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. EPISODE SUMMARY In tonight’s reflection, Tracie Miles shares a vulnerable and powerful story about life after divorce and learning to take control of her thought life. Through the imagery of mental "rooms," she explores how intentionally choosing joy can change the emotional atmosphere of our lives. Rooted in Proverbs 17:22, this devotional encourages us to let God guide our minds into spaces of blessing, not burden. MAIN TAKEAWAYS You can choose which mental "rooms" to visit—some lead to grief, others to gratitude. Scripture reminds us that joy has healing power; negativity weighs down the spirit. Taking control of your thoughts requires intention, awareness, and reliance on God. Joy is a choice, and so is the refusal to dwell on what no longer serves your spiritual growth. Your Nightly Prayer for May 13, 2025Written and led by Kyle Norman SCRIPTURE OF THE NIGHT “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”— Isaiah 43:18 (NIV) In tonight’s devotional, Kyle Norman guides us through a powerful reflection on Isaiah 43:18, inviting us to let go of the sins, memories, or even past successes that no longer serve our spiritual growth. With a relatable metaphor from the kitchen to the exile of Israel, Kyle reveals how clinging to the past keeps us from perceiving God’s active, redeeming presence in our lives today. This episode is an invitation to repentance, renewal, and trust in the "new thing" God is doing—right now. MAIN TAKEAWAYS Discover why rehearsing the past—both failures and triumphs—can prevent spiritual growth. Learn how repentance isn’t about shame, but about turning to embrace God’s current work. See Isaiah 43 in a fresh light: not as condemnation, but as a promise of renewal and hope. Reflect on how God’s redemption is not just personal, but communal—inviting your whole spiritual community to awaken to new life. YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Gracious Lord Jesus,I thank you for your work in my life. I thank you for every day I rise into your loving care, and you allow me to embrace the new things that you do in my life. Lord, help me forget the things that keep me from you. Open my heart to perceive the wonders of your presence, bless my eyes to see your work. And in those moments when I may be tempted to rehearse past sins, help me put aside the voices of guilt and shame, so that I might turn and embrace the new life you call me to. I pray all of this in your name, Jesus.Amen. CALL TO ACTION Subscribe to Your Nightly Prayer for peaceful, scripture-based reflections every evening.
