Does God only work in the miraculous and the extraordinary? It can be easy to believe so. After all, that’s what we see in scripture, isn’t it? We see Moses confronted by a burning bush, Jonah swallowed by a big fish; Elizabeth miraculously pregnant, and the disciples witnessing majesty after majesty as they journey with Jesus. Clearly, when we get closer to God, we experience wonders beyond compare, right? But then why does our life of faith sometimes seem so ordinary? Do you ever wonder why you don't witness miracles on a regular basis? This is the truth: God meets you where you are, and in what you experience. God dwells in the normal and the routine. In the hum-drum places of life, you are invited to feast on daily bread and thereby meet the living God. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Give us today our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Precious Jesus,You are the living bread, the bread that I need to journey in faith. I thank you that your presence dwells with me in the intricate moments of my day. As complicated and turned around as my life can be at times, still, you are faithful. Lord, help me quiet myself so that I can notice the movement of the Spirit all around me. Turn my attention away from the grand and the miraculous and open my heart to the gift of your presence in this moment. Help me hear your voice as you speak about the things of my life: my daily tasks, demands, and obligations. Give me the boldness to share your gift of daily bread with others. This I pray in Jesus’ name.Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON 1. In the Lord’s prayer, Jesus asks us to pray for God’s will to be done before we pray for our daily bread. How does our prayer for God’s kingdom to come take precedence in our lives? 2. During the Exodus, Manna was given each day as a symbol of Israel’s trust in God’s provision. How can you express your trust that God will provide each day? 3. Daily bread denies a spirit of scarcity (i.e., we believe there will be enough) and a spirit of excess (i.e., we don’t hoard our bread). Do you believe that scarcity or excess is a bigger temptation today? Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
Sometimes we want change because we’re bored—but often we want it because life feels hard, confusing, or beyond our control. That’s where Israel stood at the Red Sea: water in front, an enemy behind, and no clear way forward. Moses’ call to “be still” wasn’t a suggestion to relax—it was an invitation to surrender. Stillness, in moments like these, means releasing what we can’t fix and trusting God to do what we cannot. You may not know when change will come, but you can know Who is with you in the waiting. The Lord sees the road, fights for you, and guides you step by step. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” — Exodus 14:13 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Gracious Lord,I’m looking for change—answers, clarity, relief, direction. And if I’m honest, I’m tired of carrying what feels too heavy for me. Tonight, I hear Your Word: You will fight for me, and I need only to be still. So I quiet my striving and surrender what I cannot control. I place before You the places I feel trapped, the fears that chase me, and the “Red Sea” moments where I don’t know how to move forward. Open doors I cannot open. Bring healing I cannot produce. Give wisdom I cannot manufacture. Teach me what it means to stand firm—not in denial, but in trust. Help me to believe You are working even when I can’t yet see the way. And when You call me to move, give me courage to take the next faithful step. More than changed circumstances, Lord, I want a heart anchored in You. Shape my desires, align my will to Yours, and guide me in the path You’ve prepared. In Jesus’ name,Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON Where is my “Red Sea” right now? What situation feels impossible or stuck—where you need God to make a way? What does “be still” look like for me tonight? Is it releasing control, stopping the mental spirals, forgiving, asking for help, or simply praying one honest sentence? What is one next step of faith I can take?Like Israel stepping forward, what small act of obedience might God be inviting you into—one phone call, one apology, one decision, one prayer, one step? Although a New Year is usually celebrated with joyful expectation, for some, it brings an uncertainty of what might lie ahead in the coming year, especially if the last year brought sorrow, loss, and lack. Many of us have faced hardships this past year, unexpected, difficult to navigate, and might be feeling pretty beat up from life over the last year, still in recovery and restoration mode, looking ahead to the New Year. If so, it’s understandable that we are somewhat reluctant to start all over again when we’re still struggling from the year before. But as Christians, we don’t have to be fearful of facing uncertainty, because even if we don’t know what might lie ahead for us, our heavenly Father does know, and His word tells us that He is with us, leading us forward in this life. God tells us in Isaiah 41:10, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand” As well, God encourages us throughout the Bible to have faith in Him, to trust Him, because we don’t need to be fearful. He calls us to take on five traits when fear tries to overcome our faith. Listen to this episode to hear what those five traits are. TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.” - Psalm 56:3 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Dear Father,As we look ahead to the New Year, we are holding on tight to Your righteous right hand, knowing that even though fear tries to tear apart our faith and away from Your hand, it is holding onto us. Strengthen us, dear Lord, to be courageous, sound-minded, unshakable, fearless, and most of all peaceful. Help us find comfort and confidence in knowing You’ve got a hold on us that cannot be broken. As we enter the days ahead, leading us into the uncertainty of a new year, we know that with You, our futures are certain. In Jesus’ name,Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON 1. If struggling with fear as we approach the New Year, look to the Bible for verses that help embolden your faith. Write them down and read daily, maybe carry them with you wherever you go on your phone to strengthen you when fear tries to knock you to your knees and drag you down. 2. Ask God to help you be courageous like David when faced with fear that seems as destructive and powerful as a bear, or a giant, or a mad King. During these fearful times, practice leaning on Him rather than giving in to fearful thoughts. 3. Find some Christian autobiographies to read, ones of individuals who relied on their faith in God over the fears they were facing in their lives. Read them to help encourage you in your own faith-over-fear battles. Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of life because most things take longer than we want them to. Maybe you’re waiting for a breakthrough, a healing, a restored relationship, a job, direction, or simply relief—and the delay is stretching your faith thin. The truth is, God works in both the sudden and the slow. Sometimes He answers quickly. Other times, He builds something deeper in us while we wait—patience, endurance, maturity, trust. And just because you don’t see movement doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that God is not careless with unfinished things. He doesn’t begin work in you and then abandon the project. He is faithful. He is intentional. And He will carry His work forward until it is complete. So tonight, take comfort in this: your progress may feel slow, but God’s grip on your life is steady. Even in the delay, His grace is still active—and His timing is still good. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion.” — Philippians 1:6 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Heavenly Father,Teach me to wait with confidence in You and Your love. When life slows down, and answers take longer than I hope, remind me You are still at work. You never delay out of neglect, but out of love and wisdom. Help me to rest in Your timing, knowing You finish what You start. Strengthen my patience and faith in every season so my waiting is infused with worship and my heart rests in Your grace. In Jesus’ name,Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON Remember God’s faithfulness before:What is one thing you once waited for that took longer than you wanted—but God eventually brought through? How does that story strengthen your faith today? Name the unfinished place:What are you waiting on right now that feels unresolved or heavy? Bring it to God honestly. You don’t have to pretend you’re fine. Ask for endurance, not just answers:How can you pray tonight for confidence in God’s timing? What would it look like to trust that He is working even when you can’t see progress? François Fénelon once wrote that surrender isn’t about heroic acts we can brag about—it’s a quiet acceptance of what God allows, and a willingness to follow His will even when we’d rather rewrite the story. That kind of surrender brings peace. But when decisions come—big or small—we often try to take control and ask God to bless our plans. Like Abraham and Sarah, we can grow restless and rush ahead, creating more pain than peace. Scripture reminds us that true wisdom begins by looking outward to God, not inward to ourselves. When we seek His will and trust His direction, He promises to show us the path to take (Proverbs 3:5–6). Even Jesus modeled this kind of surrender. In the garden, He prayed, “Not as I will, but as You will” (Matthew 26:39). Tonight, we’re invited to follow His example—to welcome God’s direction, trust His timing, and rest in His plan with a peace that surpasses understanding. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” — Proverbs 3:6 (NLT) YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Lord,You know how often I try to force events to go my way. Instead of waiting on You or seeking Your will, I rush forward and miss the path You had lovingly made. From now on, help me to be quick to welcome Your direction instead of trusting in my knowledge or feelings. God, You know the best steps forward. I don’t want to get ahead of Your timing. Grant me patience as I wait, and diligence to search Your Word to find encouragement and guidance. And help me to rest in Your plan, accepting the path You set before me. May I do Your will, and not my own.In Jesus’ name, I pray.Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON A picture of true rest:Think of a sleeping baby or a curled-up puppy—safe, unafraid, fully at peace. What does their posture teach you about what it means to rest? Where might God be inviting you to rest tonight instead of striving? A verse that has guided you:What Scripture has God used to direct your life before? Write it down and consider memorizing it this week so it becomes a steady anchor when you’re unsure of what to do next. A warning from someone else’s shortcut:Think of Abraham and Sarah rushing ahead of God’s timing (Genesis 16). What hardships followed? In what ways might your current situation look different if you sought God’s will first instead of moving forward on impulse? In this episode of Your Nightly Prayer, Angie Grant's devotional peace guides us into the new year, reminding us that God's peace is like a fresh box of crayons - full of possibilities and order. Just as a new box of crayons brings creativity without fear of needing to be perfect, God's peace tells us we don't have to be perfect, just stay with Him. We can walk into a new season or year with courage and joy, trusting His peace to guide our steps. TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE "Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:7 THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON 1. What areas of my life do I most need a "fresh start" this year, and how might inviting God's peace into those areas help change my perspective? 2. What feels out of order in my heart or mind? How can I surrender those places to experience the steadiness of God's peace? 3. What new thing do I sense God inviting me into? How can I best trust the peace of God to help guide my steps as I move forward into new territory? There are seasons when we stand at the edge of the unknown and wish God would show us more—more clarity, more confirmation, more of what’s ahead. Uncertainty can feel even louder at night when everything is quiet but our minds are racing with questions, fears, and “what ifs.” But God rarely gives us the full map. Instead, He gives us step-by-step guidance. Psalm 119:105 reminds us that His Word is like a lamp—it doesn’t floodlight the entire road, but it illuminates the next step. And that’s where faith grows: not in seeing everything, but in trusting the One who does. God already knows the turns, the delays, and the destination. Tonight, you don’t need the whole road. You only need enough light for the next step—and God promises to provide it. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Dear God,Tonight we come to You with uncertainty and questions we can’t answer. We want clarity because we think it will make us feel safe. But tonight, we choose to trust You instead. Thank You for the reminder that Your Word is the light on our path when the road feels unclear. When fear creeps in, help us lean into Your Word. Give us courage to take the next step You place before us, and strength to loosen our grip on control. Remind us that You are already where we are going—You’ve already prepared the road ahead, and You will guide us one step at a time. Fill our hearts with peace as we rest tonight. We surrender what we cannot see and trust Your plans are greater than our plans. In Your name we pray,Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON God gives light for today. He doesn’t always reveal the whole road, but He always gives enough light for the next faithful step. Faith is stepping before you see.Trust isn’t having all the answers—it’s believing God is already ahead of you, guiding every turn. God’s Word is sufficient for what’s next. When the path feels uncertain, return to Scripture and ask: “Lord, what is the next step You’re lighting for me?” Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.
Have you ever felt too unmotivated to do even the most basic things—dishes, laundry, making a meal, or even praying? Not because you don’t care, but because you feel worn down and empty. Sometimes the weight of everyday life drains us so much that even the things that usually bring us life—Scripture, prayer, worship—start to feel like one more obligation. But God doesn’t ask us to suddenly feel energized or inspired. He invites us to take one small step of obedience and trust Him to meet us there. Paul understood spiritual fatigue when he wrote Galatians 6:9. He knew we grow weary. Yet he reminded us: a harvest is coming—if we don’t give up. Tonight, if you feel stuck, remember this: motivation isn’t the requirement—faithfulness is. Wash one dish. Pray one sentence. Open the Bible for five minutes. Take one walk. God shows up in the small steps, and He renews us as we keep going. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE: “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Heavenly Father,I’m tired tonight. Daily responsibilities feel overwhelming, and my motivation is low. Even good things—like prayer and reading Your Word—can feel like too much if I let weariness take over. Forgive me for giving up instead of asking You for strength. Help me remember that You don’t need me to feel motivated. You ask me to take one small step, trusting Your Spirit will renew me. Tomorrow, give me strength to do the next right thing, even if it’s small. Remind me that mundane moments matter when done in love. Thank You that Your grace meets me in weariness, and the harvest will come in Your timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON One Small StepWhat is one small act of obedience you can take tomorrow—something doable, not overwhelming? A five-minute prayer, one load of laundry, one page of Scripture. God honors small steps. Ministry Isn’t MundaneChoose one ordinary task (dishes, folding laundry, driving, tidying) and offer it to God as worship. Ask: How would this moment feel different if I remembered God is present with me here? Remember When God Renewed YouThink of a time you felt completely drained but kept going anyway. How did God meet you—through strength, peace, encouragement, or perspective? That same faithfulness is available to you right now. Thank you for joining us tonight. We hope this prayer has encouraged your heart. If you're struggling to find strength when you feel like giving up, we invite you to check out Rachel's book One More Step: Finding Strength When You Feel Like Giving Up. Using the never-failing promises in God's Word, Rachel shows you how to discover the strength to push through your pain and persevere when you'd rather just quit. You can find the link in the show notes. Until next time, remember, God's Spirit renews you even when your energy runs low, and He meets you in every small step of obedience. Some nights, the quiet makes our thoughts louder. We replay today, worry about tomorrow, and wonder if we’re doing enough—especially in seasons where responsibility feels tender and new. As a first-time mom with a newborn, the pressure to make the “right” choices can feel constant, especially in the middle-of-the-night moments when your mind won’t slow down. But God invites us into something gentler than striving. He doesn’t demand perfection—He asks for surrender. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us that committing our plans to the Lord is less about having everything figured out and more about placing our intentions in His hands. It’s trusting that even if the plan changes, God’s purpose remains steady—and His timing is perfect. Tonight, we can rest knowing that God is at work even while we sleep—ordering our steps, shaping our character, and establishing what’s ahead. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE “Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” — Proverbs 16:3 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Dear God,Tonight, we come before You with open hands and an open heart. Father, forgive us for the times we say we trust You but still try to carry everything on our own. We want to commit to You whatever we do—our plans, our hopes, our questions, and the things we don’t yet understand. We release the pressure to have it all figured out, and we ask You to forgive us for relying on our desires more than on You. Teach us to trust that You are establishing Your perfect plans for our lives, even when what we see doesn’t look perfect right now. Align our hearts and intentions with Your will. As we rest tonight, help us trust that You are already at work—ordering our steps, protecting our future, and preparing what’s ahead. We surrender everything in our hearts and minds to You. We place this season, this upcoming year, and our lives in Your hands. In Your mighty name we pray,Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON Surrender is not weakness—it’s trust in the God who holds tomorrow. When you commit your plans to the Lord, you trade pressure for peace and striving for security. God isn’t asking you to figure it all out—He’s asking you to hand it all over. As a new year begins, it can feel like we’re celebrating less because we’re excited—and more because we’re relieved to leave the old year behind. Time isn’t always kind, and life doesn’t always feel fair. But the turning of the calendar doesn’t remove hardship. What it can do is remind us of something deeper: God’s grace is enough for this year too. We don’t have to enter the new year strong, confident, or fully healed. We only have to enter it willing—willing to surrender, willing to be honest about our weakness, and willing to let God meet us there. Paul’s life teaches us that God’s grace doesn’t depend on our emotional stability, our perfect attitude, or our ability to handle things well. His grace is rooted in His character, not ours. And the wilderness seasons—like Israel’s—aren’t wasted. God often uses them to strip away false strength so we can learn what real strength is: dependence on Him. If this new year feels heavy, you don’t have to fight your way into it. You can rest your way into it—resting in the promise that His power is made perfect in weakness. TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE: “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER Father,In this new year, grant me Your grace—not just to survive hardship, but to become someone whose faith is strengthened through it. Your love casts out my fear of both a heavy past and an unknown future. Help me remain steadfast in Scripture. Shape my heart to pursue Your character. Give me humility to accept accountability from other believers as I stay the course. Thank You for loving me without hesitation, even when I feel fragile, exhausted, or unsure. Thank You for sustaining me no matter what unfolds. I don’t need to be strong to begin again—I need to be surrendered. Teach me to rest in Your grace instead of striving for control. Let Your sufficiency carry me through every moment of this year. Amen. THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON God doesn’t require strength—He invites surrender.True strength begins when I stop striving and let His grace meet me in my weakness (2 Corinthians 12:10). The wilderness isn’t wasted.Hard seasons can deepen my dependence on God and prepare my heart to recognize His goodness more clearly. Grace is a gift, and weakness isn’t failure.God’s favor doesn’t belong only to the flawless—it flows freely to the humble, even when my life feels messy and unfinished.
