This week on the podcast we welcome our resident Biblical scholar, Pastor David Walters, to dive deep into the complex relationship between faith and alcohol consumption.    Together, we explore not only the personal challenges of finding satisfaction in earthly things but also the broader implications of how these choices intersect with Christian values and community practices.   Pastor David sheds light on the concept of moderation and how, while it is often seen as a balanced approach, it may not always lead to true satisfaction, especially when it comes to alcohol. We address the tension between grace and responsibility, particularly within Christian communities where drinking has become normalized.   We also explore the historical context of alcohol consumption in Christianity, raising important questions about the balance between grace and personal responsibility. David emphasizes that while grace is a gift, it doesn’t give us free rein to indulge in anything we desire. Instead, grace calls us to live lives that are beneficial, constructive, and aligned with God’s will—seeking not only our own good but the good of others.

Meet Your Host
We’re Christy Osborne and Meade Holland Shirley—co-hosts of the But Jesus Drank Wine podcast and co-founders of a faith-based ministry helping women break free from alcohol and walk boldly into the freedom Jesus offers. Our paths to freedom looked different, but led to the same truth: Jesus offers more than sobriety—He offers deep, lasting transformation.

Christy, a former lawyer with a background in law, business, and politics, experienced radical renewal after choosing sobriety. Now a senior sobriety coach and author of Love Life Sober (Penguin Random House), she helps women renew their minds and rediscover joy through a powerful blend of faith, neuroscience, and practical tools.

Meade, a former pharmaceutical rep and stay-at-home mom, looked like she had it all together—but felt stuck in a nightly-ish wine habit. Once she realized the issue was less about drinking and more about thinking, everything changed. Now a senior certified coach and creator of the Change-Your-Thinking-to-Change-Your-Drinking method and The Missing P.E.A.C.E. framework, Meade helps women ditch shame, reclaim purpose, and live with peace and joy.

Together, we create loving, Spirit-led spaces where women can explore their relationship with alcohol, renew their minds, and pursue the freedom they were made for.

Christy lives in Surrey, England; Meade outside Atlanta. We're just two women who surrendered our wine glasses, found something far better in Jesus, and now have the joy of helping others do the same.
