Whose Steps Are You Following? A Daily Walk with Christ
Scripture Reading
Job 23:10–11
"But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come out as gold. My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way and have not turned aside."
Devotion
In what direction is your life moving right now? What compels you to walk where you're heading? What are your deepest longings? What is the source of your motivation? What fruit is coming from the steps you've been taking? Who is calling the shots in your life and setting your course?
Scripture often refers to our relationship with Jesus as a walk along a path. This is a wonderful analogy, because frequently in life we see that conversations are fostered and relationships are built through taking walks. Families know this, couples know this, friends know this. It's part of the rhythm of many relationships — and Jesus invites us to walk with Him.
This is a lifelong process where we have the privilege of enjoying our relationship with Him: spending time together, listening to His teaching, and letting Him set the direction our lives are moving in. As our relationship with Him grows, our desire to walk on the path He has placed before us deepens, and our reliance on His strength matures — helping us not to step off the path He's placed before us.
Today's Prayer
Lord, we thank You for Your Word, and we thank You for the privilege of looking at this portion of Scripture together today.
Lord, we're grateful that when we look at Your Word, we can see that You are directing the course our lives take, and that You invite us to walk with You by faith. We know that so often we find it easy to go in directions that are not healthy or wise — but when we look at Your Word, You encourage us to walk with You daily: to invest in the relationship we have with You, to listen to Your voice, to listen to Your counsel, and to allow You to be the one who directs the course we're taking.
You show us the steps to take. You prompt our hearts to go in the direction You're leading. And You teach us that You are present with us in every circumstance we find ourselves in.
So we're grateful for the blessings You have given us — grateful for the blessing of living in relationship with You. We pray that our walk with You would be what we're known for: that we would model it to our family, to our friends, and that our children, grandchildren, and the generations that come after them would know that we were people who walked with You. We pray that they would be inspired to walk with You as well.
Thank You, Lord, for Your Word. Thank You for the privilege of looking at it together today and thinking about these things in depth. We commit this day to Your care.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
