Jesus chose apostles from his disciples to spread the gospel after his death and resurrection. The word "apostle" comes from the Greek word apostolos, which means "one who is sent out". One of the most known parables of Jesus in the New Testament, "The Prodigal Son" refers to the story in the Gospel of Luke (15:11-32) about a son who squanders his inheritance and later returns to his father, who welcomes him back with a celebration, despite the anger and jealousy of his brother. Christians believe the parable illustrates God's unconditional love and forgiveness for sinners who repent.
