When we encounter painful and frightening circumstances, or God calls us to do something difficult, we may feel as if we’re all alone. When we are anxious or when life feels uncertain, many of us strive for control, making ourselves, rather than Christ, Lord of our lives. The problem is, we don’t have perfect wisdom or supreme power. But God does. Numerous Christ followers fear they’re either not truly saved or that they’ve done something to somehow negate God’s grace. Not only do these fears keep us from fully experiencing the freedom and joy Christ died to give us. But it can also cause us to distance ourselves from God, withdraw from religious events or gatherings, or cause us to live as if our salvation depends on us rather than Christ’s finished work on the cross. When doubts regarding our eternal security rise up, may we remember we belong to El Shaddai, the All-Sufficient God who paid for our sin and fulfilled every righteous requirement on our behalf. God often calls us to step into assignments that are beyond our human capabilities. Each day, He’s inviting us to play an active role in His redemptive mission. But when we focus on the One who calls us, Yahweh, the Great I Am who always was, is, and forevermore will be humanity’s Self-Revealing Redeemer, we’ll recognize His victory has already been secured. The parts of our story that feel the most devastating or shameful can become those stories God uses to lead others to freedom.Many times, they directly related to our calling as well. But to share them, we might need to risk vulnerability and rejection. Yet, God’s focus isn’t only on whoever might hear about our struggles and our pasts.
