Hello and welcome to another Senior Fitness Podcast with Meredith! For this episode we are talking about the importance of stretching and flexibility.

Keeping your body loose and relaxed is an important aspect of living a healthy lifestyle. Life can get busy and and cause us to tense our bodies, to the point where we may not even realize we are doing it.

Stretching on a daily basis and keeping ourselves relaxed can make a big difference in how we feel and carry ourselves.

The great thing about stretching is that you can do it anytime, and anywhere. Even if you don't have the energy to do a full workout, you can still do some simple stretching exercises to help you feel more relaxed.

In This Episode You Will Learn:

1). Why flexibility and stretching are so important to us and how they can affect our daily lives in a positive and healthy way

2). Why our flexibility declines with age and how muscle pain and aches can deter you from stretching regularly and how to avoid this.

3). Some examples of stretching exercises you can try at home (seated if you like) that will help your back, lower body and arms.

4). More examples of stretches that will help you upper back, neck, legs and core.

5). What "Range of Motion" is and why being aware of your limitations at start can help you build up your range of motion over time with consistent stretching.

6). Why starting off your day with simple stretching when your body is just waking up may be better for most people and then going into heavier full body stretching later in the day or evening can give you the best benefits.

Thank you again for listening to this week's podcast. We hope this episode on the benefits of stretching and flexibility helps you decide on what is best for you.

Everyone is different and our bodies respond differently to stretching so always take the time to figure out what works best for your body. There are no rules to follow that works for everyone, only what you feel comfortable with.

Til the next episode!
