Hello and thanks for joining us for this week’s podcast episode!

This week we are taking a look at how and why resistance exercises like lifting weights, resistance band training and more can benefit you if you suffer from osteoporosis.

“Osteoporosis is a bone disease that occurs when the body loses too much bone, makes too little bone, or both. As a result, bones become weak and may break from a fall or, in serious cases, from sneezing or minor bumps.” (Link Here)

In the case of exercising, it would seem as though doing any kind of resistance workouts would seem not beneficial for bone health but if done properly, weight training and resistance exercises can actually help strengthen bones along with muscles.

Suffering from osteoporosis doesn’t mean you have to be sidelined. You can still benefit from exercise whether it be cardio work in low impact exercises and as you will see here, resistance training as well.

In This Workout You Will Learn:

1). What exactly is resistance training and how does it pertain to building up strength in our bodies and what does it have to do with helping our bones get healthier.

2). What types of exercises can actually be harmful to you if you do suffer from osteoporosis and where does resistance training fit into your overall health.

3). A few examples of how you can use resistance bands for training that will help build up your lower body muscles to support your bones so they are less likely to cause injury.

4). More great examples of exercises you can do using a simple exercise ball or executing “range of motion” movements that will benefit your bone health.

5). Some advice on what kind of exercise equipment you can buy (dumbbells, resistance bands etc.) or that you can find at home (water bottles, cans of soup etc) that you can use for effective safe resistance training.

We hope this important discussion on osteoporosis and resistance exercises is helpful to you. If you or you know someone who suffers from this disease, please know that exercising is still available to you in many varieties.

Resistance workouts can still be beneficial to you and improve your bone health if done properly and with care. Our goal is to help you stay active and healthy in any way it is available to you and living with osteoporosis is no exception.

Stay happy and healthy!
