In today's episode, Becket chats with Alan Shlemon from Stand to Reason about Hermeneutics - the discipline of interpreting the Bible. We learn how context and history play an important role in our understanding, and how modern Christians tend to overlook literary themes when reading scripture. It is important for us in the modern church to respect the history, culture and true meanings behind the biblical text. Applying this discipline is crucial to understanding the Bible correctly, and will help you avoid falling into the common mistakes among Bible readers. Our culture would have us interpret the Bible in whatever way feels best to us, but we need to study the Word of God and its original intended meaning rather than bend it to our own cultural whims. We also discuss commonly misunderstood passages in the Bible. Some of these may shock you.
