A Prayer for Those Longing for Peace in Creation
Wild animals carry a raw, simultaneous presence of beauty and danger that is difficult to fully articulate, which is exactly what makes the picture in Isaiah 11 so stunning. A wolf living with a lamb. A leopard resting beside a goat. A little child leading them all. These pairings shatter every assumption we hold about the natural order of things. They are describing something that has never existed in a fallen world. A day is coming when the knowledge of the Lord will fill the earth as the waters cover the sea, and in that day, radical and complete peace will come to all of creation. No more fear, no more power struggle, no more tooth and claw. The everlasting reign of Jesus will bring the peace that every corner of creation has been groaning for. For now, we live in the in-between. We catch glimpses of that coming reality in our friendships with animals, in moments of unexpected beauty in the natural world, and in the steady trust that what is broken is not forever. All shall be well.

Ponder Today
- The stunning pairings in Isaiah 11 are meant to shatter our assumptions. Wolf with lamb. Leopard with goat. Child leading them all. God is describing something so far outside our current experience that it can only arrive with the fullness of His knowledge filling the earth.
- We live in the in-between of here but not yet. The promise of Isaiah 11 is future, but we are not without glimpses of it now — in the animals we love, in moments of beauty in nature, and in every act of peace and care we extend to the world around us.
- The current brokenness of creation is not its final state. Romans 8 tells us that creation itself groans, waiting for redemption. That groan is not hopeless — it is the groan of something that knows restoration is coming.
- Waiting faithfully means making the most of opportunities to promote peace right now. We cannot bring Isaiah 11 into full reality, but we can be agents of the peace it describes in the lives and world around us while we wait for the One who will.
A Prayer for You Today
Root of Jesse, Scripture speaks of a coming day when You will rule in peace and righteousness, when the world will be filled with the knowledge of You and all will confess that Jesus is Lord. With Your rule, peace will come to all of creation. I long for this day when wars will cease, humans will live in harmony with Your good creation, and death will die. Right now, I find myself in the in-between of here but not yet. Help me wait in faithfulness, making the most of my opportunities to promote peace in the lives and world around me. May I live with steady trust that the current brokenness of creation is not forever. Peace is coming. And so I trust, in the words of Julian of Norwich, that all shall be well. In Jesus' name, Amen.
