A refuge is not a storm-free environment. It is a place of safety within the storm, which means God's presence does not eliminate our difficult seasons but transforms how we experience them.

Carrying tomorrow's anxieties into today is one of the most reliable ways to drain the peace that God provides for the present moment. His grace is distributed daily, not in advance, which is an invitation to trust Him one day at a time.

The question worth carrying into September is not how to have every detail planned, but how to remain close to the One who is the refuge. That proximity changes the season more than any amount of preparation.

Many of the things we are anxious about in August have not happened yet and may never happen the way we are imagining them. Naming those specific worries and releasing them to God tonight is a more productive use of the evening than continuing to carry them.

Tonight's Scripture

"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." — Psalm 46:1, NIV

Your Evening Prayer

Lord Jesus,

As summer begins to fade and fall is on our hearts, we look to You for strength. May we experience Your grace over our lives one day at a time, and not try to carry next month's burdens tonight.

Help us rest in Your presence. Teach us to turn our panic into Your peace. May we not strive but surrender. Thank You for being our refuge, the place we are safe not because the storm does not come, but because You are in it with us.

Let our first response always be to run to You.

In Jesus' name, Amen.
